I recently got in touch with a friend of mine who had several laser sessions.
Indeed, she started by having her bikini line and underarms waxed.
Delighted with the results, she explained to me how the appointments went, gave me several tips on institutes etc..
First of all, let's talk about the price:
You should know that laser hair removal is "a luxury" because the prices are about 200€ per session. You will need an average of 10 sessions to remove all the hair in the area concerned, then it varies according to each person. Formulas are proposed if you want to do bikini plus underarms or bikini, half-legs, underarms.
Then, how to choose your institute:
It is important to know that not all dermatologists offer laser treatment and no institute can offer laser treatment; in fact they practice pulsed light.
To do this, you need to do some research to find out which dermatologist is authorized to perform laser treatments.
Course of an appointment :
First appointment: First of all, the dermatologist looks at the person's skin type and hair color to decide which machine to use.
Then, he makes an estimate with an average of 10 sessions minimum.
After that, there is a preparation to do before each laser session:
First of all, an anesthetic cream is prescribed (to reduce pain) to be put on 1 hour before the session.
You must not wax at all, only the razor is authorized.
During the appointment, you must shave the same morning and then put the anesthetic cream with cellophane all around. Upon arrival, a pair of glasses against the rays is given and the session can begin.
A session lasts about 20 minutes for one area and between 35 and 40 minutes for two areas.
During the session, you may feel a slight sensitivity, but this varies from person to person.
After the session, you will feel a source of heat on the treated areas for about 1 hour. The skin must then be moisturized with a cream after the session and also the next day.
The sessions are spaced one month and a half apart and you must NOT expose yourself to the sun during the treatment.
The results appear quickly, from the first time. And as the sessions go on, the hair gradually goes away, until the last session when there is almost nothing left.
Post-treatment follow-up:
No scars are present, no traces, there is only a feeling of having recovered a baby skin without hair.
So why not use pulsed light?
Intense pulsed light corresponds to a heat of up to 70° which is absorbed by the hair to destroy its root. It is defined by a flash that has a wider target than the laser on the skin.
As for the course of the sessions, it is more or less the same as for the laser sessions.
However, the prices are a little more affordable:
Count 300€ to 400€ for underarms (fixed price), Legs between 1000€ and 1500€ (fixed price). Of course, prices vary according to the institute.
To conclude: Laser is a more professional and medical technique because it is really chosen according to the color of your hair. It will therefore be more personalized and will work better than pulsed light which is a more general alternative to get rid of hair growth.
