Books that marked my childhood

1. The Harry Potter Saga by J.K. Rowling

Summary:

On his eleventh birthday, Harry Potter, an orphan raised by a hated aunt and uncle, finds his life turned upside down. A giant comes to pick him up and take him to Hogwarts, the famous school of witchcraft and wizardry where he has always had a place. Flying on broomsticks, casting spells, fighting trolls: Harry Potter proves to be a truly gifted wizard. But what mystery surrounds his birth and who is the frightening V..., the wizard whose name nobody dares to pronounce?

Why?

Simply because Harry Potter is the basis. Who hasn't read or seen it? Of course, this saga has marked my childhood, like many people. These books allow us to dream, to travel in a world of magic. And then, I think we are all fans of the Golden Trio.

2. The Percy Jackson Saga by Rick Riordan

Summary:

Being a demigod can be deadly...

Attacked by his math teacher who is in fact a mythological monster, unjustly expelled from his college and pursued by a rabid minotaur, Percy Jackson finds himself accused of having stolen Zeus' lightning bolt!

To stay alive, clear his name and discover the identity of the god who created him, he will have to accomplish his quest at the cost of a thousand dangers.

Why?

I love this saga. I think it is the saga that made me love reading. I like to read it again and again because I love the story and the characters: Percy, Annabeth and Grover. Also, it is so well written, and I love how the author immerses us in a mythological world while remaining modern.

3. The Mortal Instruments Saga by Cassandra Clare

Summary:

New York City, in the present day. During a party, 15-year-old Clary witnesses a murder. She is terrified when the victim's body mysteriously disappears before her eyes... She then discovers the existence of an invisible war between demonic forces and the secret society of Shadowhunters. The mysterious Jace is one of them. Alongside him, Clary will play a role in this adventure that she never imagined.

Why?

I'm not sure how I came across this series, but when I started it, I couldn't put it down. I read the first saga, then I went on with the spins-off, and all the sagas of The Mortal Instruments. In fact, this saga marked me so much that I even have a tattoo representing it. And now, it has been adapted in comics.

4. The Maze Runner trilogy by James Dashner

Summary:

When Thomas regains consciousness, his memory is empty, only his name is familiar... He finds himself surrounded by teenagers in a strange place, in the shadow of impassable walls. Four gigantic doors, which close at night, open onto a labyrinth populated by steel monsters. Every night, the plan is modified.

Thomas understands that a terrible ordeal awaits them all. How to escape through the cursed labyrinth without risking his life? If only he could unearth the dark secrets buried deep in his memory...

Why?

I had read the books long before the movies came out and I have to say that the books are a thousand times better (yes okay, that's almost always the case). I seem to have read them for the first time when I was in middle school and I loved them. There is plenty of action, the characters are touching, especially Newt who will stay in my heart forever.

5. The Gemstone Trilogy (Ruby Red) by Kerstin Gier

Summary:

Gwendolyn is a high school girl like any other. Okay, she sees ghosts in the hallways of her high school, but first she sees only one, and then nobody is perfect. As for the rest, it's just ordinary life, with boring teachers, a demanding mother, and annoying brothers and sisters...

But when she suddenly finds herself projected into the beginning of the last century, Gwendolyn panics. It doesn't last very long, but still!

She who thought she was ordinary turns out to be marked with the seal of the time watchers. Those who travel through the ages to accomplish mysterious missions.

Something to get you out of your daily routine.....

Why?

I had decided to read the books after seeing the first movie. Since the movie didn't excite me that much even though I liked the story, I didn't have any particular expectations for the books. But I think reading these books was the best thing I ever did. I had a blast because I loved the story so much. First of all, because time travel is so original, but mostly because the plot is amazing, it's super well written and the best part is Gwen and Gideon. I love them.
