The books:
The story is about Ruby Daily, who at the age of 7, discovers she has powers while other children with NIAA, a virus, either die or gain abilities. These abilities are classified according to the danger they represent: first, there are the green ones (the geniuses), then the blue ones (those with the power of telekinesis), the yellow ones (who control electricity), the red ones (who control fire), and finally, the orange ones (who control the brain). Ruby learns, while at a special camp for children with these powers, that she is an orange, the most feared ability. By pretending to be a green, she manages to survive six years in the camp, until she manages to escape the camp and stumbles upon a group of kids consisting of Liam, Chubs and Zu...
My Impression:
This is a trilogy that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It is gripping in a way I have never read. When you finish a chapter, you definitely want to read the next one because it almost always ends with a twist or an intense event that makes you want to read more. These books are just wonderful. I loved reading them, immersing myself in this story that I found interesting from the beginning. I discovered a whole new world with these books, a world where children had their lives changed overnight. And then, there are the characters. Characters full of life and endearing. My favorite character is still Liam. But they are all so real, I could really picture them as I read the pages. Moving pages, with funny, romantic, action and adventure passages, lessons sometimes. In short, you can find everything in this trilogy. And I must say that I really liked it. It has become one of my favorite books.
The movie:
I must admit that I saw the movie before reading the books. And that it was the movie that pushed me to read them. I loved the movie, even if I like it a little less than the books. And of course, even if in the movie, the directors change some details and create others, overall the first book is pretty well respected and we have the key elements. The characters are super well played and we realize even better their personality. Ruby (played by Amanda Stenberg) is strong, brave and fearless. Liam (played by Harris Dickinson) is loyal, emphatic and generous. Chubs (played by Skylan Brooks) is the smartest young man, who trusts only his instincts. And Zu (played by Miya Cech) is a very brave little girl who has faced many terrible events.
Like the book, the film is full of action, emotion, humor and a touch of romance. An explosive and fascinating combo.
