Top 5 romance books

Updated: Jun 14, 2023

1. Scottish Rhapsody by Delinda Dane

Summary:

Erynn Wallace had long forgotten that Scotland ran through her veins. Growing up in London with an English mother probably didn't help her cultivate her roots...

But when she returned to her native village for her grandfather's funeral, she never thought she would feel so out of place. The people, the accent, the customs... she forgot everything. And it is not Lachlan Cameron who is likely to put her at ease.

The heir to the Cameron clan even seems to treat her with particular disdain. He only sees her as an opportunist, who has come to raid his inheritance before leaving for the enemy. What does Erynn care about the opinion of this stranger, certainly attractive, but perfectly unpleasant?

What is certain is that it would be much easier to ignore him if, in order to preserve the domain of her ancestors, she was not forced to marry him...

Why?

Because I love this story, it's a beautiful romance with an ennemy-to-lovers, a trope I love and which by the way is going to be almost everywhere in this top 5. Also, the characters are funny. I also got to meet the author at the Paris Book Festival and it was a great meeting.

2. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Summary:

The day Lucy meets her new colleague, Joshua Templeman, she can't believe it: he's a knockout! But it doesn't take her more than two seconds to discover that he's also cold, cynical, ruthless... absolutely hateful! So when their respective bosses put them in competition for a promotion, Lucy is ready to do anything to beat him. Because, if she wins, she'll be his boss. If he wins... she'll quit. She has no choice but to win. But when, one evening, in the elevator, this traitorous Josh kisses her passionately, she is completely destabilized. Was she wrong about him all along? Or is it a tactic of Josh to make her lose her means?

Why?

Again, because the enemy-to-lovers romance is incredible. What I particularly liked about this book is that I felt close to Lucy and identified with her in many ways. Also, the movie adaptation respects the book quite well, which is a plus.

3. The air he breathes by Brittainy C. Cherry

Summary:

Will they find their way back to life?

They are both in mourning, and will try to learn to live again. Together, they will be able to overcome their preconceived notions.

Tristan and Elizabeth are neighbors, they have nothing in common but their painful past.

She has chosen to go on living, if only for the sake of her little daughter Emma.

He has chosen to withdraw from the world.

But Elizabeth doesn't see it that way. She knows that they are both broken and that together they will be stronger to face their ghosts. But that doesn't take into account all the pitfalls that the inhabitants of their small town will put in their way.

Together, they will know how to overcome the preconceived ideas.

Why?

Because this romance is one of the most touching and deepest I have ever read. This is the particularity of Brittainy C. Cherry, I think. She knows how to touch her readers deep in our hearts. And this book really moved me, like all the rest of her saga The Elements.

4. The Deal by Elle Kennedy

Summary:

Hannah is a great student and has an incredible gift for singing.

But when it comes to men and seduction, she loses all her nerve. Garrett is the star of the college field hockey team, but his grades aren't up to par and he's in danger of losing his spot on the team. They strike a funny deal. She tutors him and he helps her seduce the soccer team's quarterback.

Will this unusual arrangement change their lives?

Why?

How I like this story, this romance. It's for a slightly younger audience than the other books I've featured previously because it takes place in college, but I love it. Garrett is the best character in this saga. He really touched me with his actions and words. This story is worth the cost of reading.

5. The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelhood

Summary:

Olive Smith, a third-year thesis student, doesn't believe in lasting relationships; Anh, her best friend does, which is why Olive finds herself in a bind. In order to convince Anh that she is happily in love, Olive can't settle for a simple lie: scientists need proof. Like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees. That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a sexy and tyrannical young professor at Stanford. Against all odds, Adam agrees to pretend to be her boyfriend. Even more surprising: he is perfect in every way. Suddenly, their experiment is close to combustion, and Olive discovers that testing her assumptions about love can be dangerous when it's her own heart that's put under a microscope...

Why?

I simply loved the story. And the characters! I felt caught up in the story, following Olive in her adventures, which are sometimes very funny. And Adam, he is perfect, we can only fall in love with him as the story goes on.
